Christian Christmas Music Day 9 – Ed Ames

***Until Christmas Day, I will be highlighting one song that defines Christmas for me and my family. Hopefully, some of these songs will be an inspiration to you and your family as well.

Day 9 – Ed Ames – A voice from the 60’s

Christmas with Ed Ames Song – Away in a manger

Away in a manger
No crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus
Lay down His sweet head

The stars in the sky
Look down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay

The cattle are lowing
The poor Baby wakes
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes

I love Thee, Lord Jesus
Look down from the sky
And stay by my side
‘Til morning is nigh

Be near me, Lord Jesus
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me, I pray

Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to Heaven
To live with Thee there

My love for Hip Hop is well documented but sometimes you just need to bring it back to the classics.  Ed Ames has that kind of voice.  When you hear it, memories of the a different time comes.  Many of you have never heard of Ed Ames but after hearing this son, I hope you give him a try.  Ed always brings back the times when life was just a little more simple.  Merry Christmas to all!  =)  -PJSLB

Christian Christmas Music Day 8 – Whitney Houston

***Until Christmas Day, I will be highlighting one song that defines Christmas for me and my family. Hopefully, some of these songs will be an inspiration to you and your family as well.

Day 8 – Whitney Houston – Sung the best version of the US National Anthem

One Wish The Holiday Album Song – O come O come, Emmanuel

Growing up, there was a voice that no matter was the topic of her song, always had me just stay still and listen.  There was her song for the movie The Bodyguard, I Ihave Nothing that has parts in it where you really doubt that it is a human being singing because there is no way a human can hit those notes with such command and ease.  Mrs. Houston had me standing still again during the beginning Super Bowl XXV (my Giants won!) when just days after the US entered the war, she sang what is to this day the standard of what the US National Anthem should sound like.

Whitney’s struggles while on earth is well document BUT also is her love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  When people ask me how can someone like Whitney say they love the Lord and particiapte in such aweful things, my answer is always the same:

Our Lord is comfort to those who seek him.  We are all lost and broken and it is thru Jesus that we are redeemed.  Our salvation is something that no person on this earth can take away for it is a gift from God.  A gift we received when we accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior who died for our sins.

Merry Christmas to all!  =)  -PJSLB

Christian Christmas Music Day 7

***Until Christmas Day, I will be highlighting one song that defines Christmas for me and my family. Hopefully, some of these songs will be an inspiration to you and your family as well.

Day 7 – Nat King Cole – The “unforgetable” voice

The Christmas Album  Song – Joy to the world

Nat King Cole Christmas

I first heard about Nat King Cole when I saw his daughter Natalie Cole do a duet with her father using old photos and singing with him.  I remember having chills just thinking about what Natalie was going thru singing a song like that.  Since then, I have been a fan of Nat King Cole and all that he has done for for music thru Jazz.

This morning i saw my daugthers walking to class and i thought, “…wow they are growing up so fast”.  That moment with my daughter along with the picture above and the singing of Natalie Cole with her father makes me very blessed this morning.  Thank you lord for allowing me to take care of these kids while they are here and thank you for the moment Natalie got to sing with her father.   Merry Christmas!  =)  -PJSLB

Christian Christmas Music Day 6

***Until Christmas Day, I will be highlighting one song that defines Christmas for me and my family. Hopefully, some of these songs will be an inspiration to you and your family as well.

Day 6 – Frank Sinatra – The voice of New York.

Christmas Songs by Sinatra  Song – O little town of Bethlehem

Oh little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth, the everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above
While mortals sleep the angels keep their watch of wondering love
Oh morning stars together, proclaim thy holy birth.
And praises sing to God the king, and peace to men on earth.

Oh little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth, the everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

Frank Sinatra is my vision of class and sophistication.  Maybe its’s because i am a Yankees fan, but when i hear sinatra’s house, i think of winning and happiness.  =)

Today i was stressing the week and then i realized that i get to look forward to stories of our Saviors birth and life!  =)  -PJSLB
