Watching the company you keep.

When i was young, i remember my teachers saying that if you want to know what a person is like, watch the friends that surround him.  I have always agreed with that statement, but lately that statement has become more and more the description of my life.
I am a strong person (i would like to think) and there isn’t much that gets to me.  Yes, i get hurt when someone speaks negative towards me (or others) and i know i am just not built to have that kind of negativity in my life.  This is the reason why i keep my circle of friends so small.  I may not have a lot of friends but i do have friends that are of substance and that add something positive to my life.  For the most part, my friends are Christians but not all.  This is where it gets a little sticky.

Someone who i thought was a “friend” has not been saying nice things about me.  This is someone I would consider a Christian brother. They talk along the lines of being negative and finding opportunities to “poke holes” in what i do in the hopes of picking themselves up.  What do i do?  Like i said, i am not the type that likes negativity and i definitely do not like confrontation.  In the end, i know myself and i know that i will just be staying away from this person.

This has gotten me to think of the times I haven’t been Christian like in my conversations with others.  Its a humbling experience to know that i have hurt someone the same way that my friends has done to me.  I can’t imagine i became that person who some would describe as a “judgmental Christian.”  This is definitely something i need to change in myself.

Have you experienced something like this?  Let us know.

Have a great days family. I thank God for speaking to me like this today and i pray that each of you hear the Holy Spirit when called upon to do something or change something within your life.

Being Prompted by the Holy Spirit

“I am speaking the truth in Christ. I am not lying; my conscience [enlightened and prompted] by the Holy Spirit bearing witness with me.(ROMANS 9:1)”

Have you ever “heard” the Holy Spirit talking to you?  It doesn’t have to be anything drastic or big.  It could be something as simple as the Holy Spirit telling you to say hello to a certain person.

Not to long ago, I was up late at night watching the West Wing on Netflix.  It was well past midnight and I was just trying to fall asleep.  As I was about to sleep, I had the sudden urge to text someone that I have not spoken to in almost a year.  I paid no attention to this feeling and continued watching my show.  The urge to text was still there after an hour but by now it was something that was on the forefront of my mind.  I got my phone and shot a quick text saying hi and how’s the family.  I soon got a reply and we started texting back and forth for a couple of mins just small talk.  I thought this was weird and since nothing came from it, I immediately brushed it aside as my imagination running wild.
A month later, I got a text from the person I have not talked to in about a year.  He was telling me about his daughter and some procedures that she has to go thru.  He asked for prayers for his daughter, his family, and himself.  Naturally, we prayed together and in the name of Jesus, I lifted his family up in my prayers and we talked about trust God.  They are going thru life day to day but he is thankful for having someone who was able to pray with him at the very second he needed it.

Putting everything together, I realized that if I didn’t listen to the Holy Spirit urging me to say hi, I would of missed an opportunity to really affect change in another persons life.  A simple hi that made no sense at the time lead to a prayer request that placed a family in a peace that only the Lord can bring.

What about you?  Have you been listening to the Holy Spirit telling you to do the little things?  Maybe the urge is to pick up that piece or trash. It could be something along the lines of being courteous and opening the door for someone at a department store.  Ever hear something deep down telling you to “talk to that person”.  You may want to listen to that voice.  There is no telling where the Lord may take you.  That’s the beauty and excitement of living as a Christian.

God showing me I am on the right path…

Was not really looking forward to this week. With my teams seasons starting and the beginning of the school year, it’s been one long hectic week.

I arrived in the morning to my office, turned on my lights and computer, and began focusing on my day and the potential land mines that lay ahead. As I looked down on my desk calendar, I saw two notes that just made me day.

It’s amazing how just 11 words can change how you feel. I thank you lord for these words and the gentle reminder that though i am tired, I need to always be on my game. I am serving you and I am you ambassador while I am here on earth.

The storm that didn’t come.

Life is full of unexpected events.  No matter how “prepared” you are, life can (and will) throw you a curve ball.  This was the case for me yesterday.  The southern USA was experiencing strong storms with the possibility of tornadoes.  I was nervous going to bed because the forecast called for severe storms to arrive around 1:00 am.  I said a quick prayer asking the lord to bring peace into my life.  It was then that a feeling came into my spirit. It was just in me to now “relax”.  I was no longer worried and it was just placed in my heart that everything will be alright.  In the end, the storms passed and we slept thru the night.

Keep God close an you will be embolden to not fear anything on this earth.  Be safe everyone and be comforted that our Lord has risen from the dead.
