How do you talk to Christ on a daily basis

Talking to God is one of those things that are constant yet has its days.  Just like a child talking to a parent. On the good days a child will say little to nothing to a parent but on days when they are in trouble or have a problem, they tell mom/dad all their problems and look for guidance.

I am just like that as well.  Lately, i have been going thru a life altering event and my prayers and conversations will Christ have been on full blast.  I got a couple of questions about how to interact with Christ on a daily level that i thought i would share it all with you.

The first thing i do when i wake up is talk to God.  Its not a prayer in itself but rather a conversation.  All thru the night, I actually speak with Christ.  It may be a sentence or just a word but its my way of being around our Lord.

When i get to my office, I read a devotional to set my day.  The devotionals change to keep things fresh and motivating.  Lately, I have been reading First 5, an app that has daily devotionals centered around a book on the bible.  I love that the themes constantly change and how more than a few people comment on the days devotional.  Below is a picture of todays devotional on First 5.

My next schedules appoint with the Lord is at 3:00 pm.  Lets me first say that i do have Christ on my mind daily and when faced with specific events, I do say quick prayers but 3:00 pm is my set aside time to be with Christ again.  Why 3:00 pm?  Mark 15:25 tell us that Jesus crucifixion took place on the third hour (9:00 am) and died on the 6th hour (3:00 pm).  I am aware that other parts of the bible are different.  3 PM is not a sacred hour but an hour of reflection.

At this time, I listen to a podcast from Max Lucado – Daily Devotionals.  The devotionals are lighthearted and inspirational.  The length or just over a min allows me to listen, pray and continue with my days.

Finally at the end of the day, i read my Bible. There is nothing wrong with reading the Bible in the morning but for me, I love being able to read it and just reflect on it while laying down.  I always do the “read the bible in a year” programs.  Currently, i am reading the Book of Job.

I would love to hear how you spend your day with Christ.  There is no right or wrong way.  The important thing is to share you day with our savior.  He loves being part of our lives.  God Bless and have a good one! -PJSLB

I just placed church and shopping on this same level

For me, Christmas always comes in stages.  The first stage begins on the Friday after Thanksgiving (black Friday).  In years past, my wife and I would line up at some store we wanted to get a good deal at usually a Best Buy or even a Barnes and Noble.  The beauty about the internet is the shopping that can happen online (i’m talking about you Amazon). This year about 75 percent of our Christmas gifts have been bought online.

The second stage of Christmas is the next two weeks.  In this time we start getting our Christmas cards together, continue buying gifts and decorate the house.  It is always in this time that there is a “surprise” gifts that we end up getting because we know it is something our kids will love and cherish.  That gift this year was a miniature doxie.  Being that my kids are young, they won’t be reading this post for another five years so i dont mind saying that here.

This morning I woke up with my nose clogged up, throat scratchy, and coughing.  I said to my wife that if it wasn’t for Church today and Christmas shopping, i would be in bed today. Thinking about that sentence made me realize my priorities are not in order.  How did I end up putting shopping and church in the same level of importance?

A few days ago I wrote about Why I love Christmas.  I wrote about this time being an opportunity to share about our love for Christ.  Writing that and saying what i did made me realize my priorities and outlook was getting distorted.  I need to get back on track.  It’s not about the gifts, the decoration, or even finding that “special” gift.  Have you ever got your priorities as mixed up as i did?  Reality is that our special gifts has already been given.  Our Lord and Savior giving himself to the cross so that we may have ever lasting life.  That my friends should be the only gift we need.  Have a good beautiful Sunday everyone -PJSLB

Matthew 6:19-21 – Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Daily Devotional – 11/30/16

If you own an iPhone, you need to have Max Lucado’s Daily Devotional podcast as it is the perfect way to start the morning.  With the podcast being only 1 min, it is short enough that you can fit it in with the hectic morning schedule and at the same time be filled with wonderful insight and encouragement from a Christian perspective on life.

In today’s devotional, Lucado focuses on “today’s problem not necessarily being tomorrow problem”.  He goes on to talk about not setting yourself up for failure.  Just because your dad was a drunk does not mean you will be one as well!  Lucado reminds us to “…stand against the wiles of the Devil” (Ephesians 6:11).  The complete verse reads as such in the bible.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Do yourself a favor, head over to the search button in your Podcast app and subscribe to Max Lucado’s Daily Devotional.  For Android or people who would like to listen on their computers your can find then here.  Itunes and Mac users can find them here.

Daily Verse 11/29/16

We are all individuals and as we come together we make up the face of Jesus on this earth.  I love the word INDIVIDUAL.  There is no prototype Christian.  We all come from different backgrounds, our experiences vary from one to another, and some are just blessed more than others.  BUT, there is no one person more important than the next in the eyes of the Lord.  We all come together for the glory of God
